Civil War encampment in Litchfield

The 2nd Connecticut Heavy Artillery Regiment of the Civil War will hold an on the Litchfield Town Green on Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors will see soldiers drilling, Civil War camp life, a medical display, a 19th century mourning process, and period toys. They can also meet personalities such as Harriet Beecher Stowe, Governor Buckingham, and other period speakers of the time. Civil War re-enactors will be at Camp Dutton, the original camping and training grounds located 1 mile south of the town green. Marking the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, the encampment called “Litchfield Awake!” is sponsored by the Litchfield Historical Society and the Old 19th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry.
